Sir Billy Connolly says being turned into Lego figure highlight of career

Sir Billy Connolly has said being turned into a Lego figure has been one of the highlights of his career.

Five limited edition Lego figurines of the comedy legend were created for the Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity by city shopping mall Buchanan Galleries.

They raised almost £10,000 for the good cause last month after fans of the 78-year-old queued for hours outside the shopping centre to snap up one of the 750 “Wee Big Yin” souvenirs.

Sir Billy Connolly also known as The Big Yin (PA)

Connolly, who has just released his autobiography Windswept and Interesting, has told of his delight at the honour.

He said he had previously been a toy in aMcDonald’s Happy Meal after playing Dain Ironfoot in The Hobbit but revealed being a “Lego person” topped that.

Asked what had been the most fun part of his career, he said: “There’s a little Billy Connolly in Lego and you can buy little Lego parts with me on it.

“When I was in New Zealand doing The Hobbit I appeared in a Happy Meal at McDonald’s and I thought that was the apex, the ultimate, but to be a Lego man is amazing.”
