Legendary Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson would have destroyed Bruno Fernandes for his mistake against Leicester.
That is the opinion of former United midfielder Owen Hargreaves.
Fernandes was at fault for Leicester’s first goal as they held United to a 2-2 on Saturday, having scored and assisted already to put the Red Devils in a commanding position.
The Portuguese was caught in his own half during the first period - being dispossessed in the build-up to Harvey Barnes' equaliser.
And despite his efforts in attack, Hargreaves admits that gifting such an easy goal would have seen Fernandes in deep hot water if Ferguson was still in charge, though he says that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is likely to go easier on his star man.
“Fernandes, sometimes as good as you are, don’t play with risk in your own half,” Hargreaves told Premier League Productions.
“He’s fortunate Ole is a nice manager because I can only imagine what Sir Alex would have said to one of us if we tried to nutmeg someone in our own half.”
Solskjaer admitted after the draw against Leicester that Fernandes does tend to cause him plenty of stress during matches.
"He is definitely a player who impacts results," said Solskjaer. "He creates chances, scores goals and takes risks - which any Manchester United player should be allowed to do and be brave enough to do. He is definitely a brave boy. He sees the pass.
"Sometimes I might tear my hair out and say that there is an easier pass to the right or to the left or back but you cannot take that away from Bruno.
“You want him to be the x-factor who has players ahead of him making runs so I am very pleased with his influence this season and this year. He is always there supporting his team-mates as well.
"That is also part of the team. He does have players ahead of him making runs and giving him opportunities to play those passes. It is not just down to Bruno.
“We have to remember that he has come into a team that helps him as well. We all have a role to play and he is playing his role to the best of his ability."
