Sir Alex Ferguson to 'urge' Manchester United to sign John McGinn

Sir Alex Ferguson is bemused by Manchester United’s failure to go for John McGinn.

The Scotland midfielder was linked with the Old Trafford giants in the summer after a stunning season saw him help Aston Villa achieve promotion back to the English Premier League.

But they failed to sign him and with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer under pressure as the Red Devils struggle, the £2.75million bargain buy is seen as one potential transfer target in January.

And according to legendary Scottish scout Bobby Jenks, who recommended the former Hibs star to Villa, Ferguson will urge Manchester United to finally make their move for the 24-year-old.

Fergie is said to be a fan of McGinn (X01095)

Jenks told the The Athletic: "He's up there with the best-performing midfielders in the division. Wait until he's had a year at that level and then we can say more.

"What I do know is that Sir Alex Ferguson is wondering why Manchester United let a talented Scottish boy slip through.

"He'll be keeping a close eye on him that's for sure and if he continues the way he is, you can bet he'll be telling his pals at United, too."

McGinn is currently on international duty as Steve Clarke’s side attempt to salvage some pride in their Euro 2020 campaign with a good result against Russia on Thursday night.
