Sir Alex Ferguson 'text Ralph Hasenhuttl' after Southampton 9-0 thrashing

Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has revealed that Sir Alex Ferguson sent him a text message after watching Saints get hammered 9-0 by Leicester City.

Matching the record scoreline in Premier League history and becoming the biggest away win in the history of top-flight English football, the Foxes ran riot at St. Mary's.

Both Jamie Vardy and Ayoze Perez scored hat-tricks after Ryan Bertrand had been sent off in the 12th minute for the home side.

In reaction to the humiliating result, Southampton players and backroom staff donated their day's waged to the club's charity 'Saints Foundation'.

Hassenhuttle has now revealed that Sir Alex got in touch with a sympathetic message, having never heard from the legendary coach before.

"I received a SMS from Alex Ferguson," he told Sky Sports News.

"I didn't know him before, and maybe If I had never lost 9-0 I would never have contact with him so that was the positive thing of this result.

"It was really helpful. It gave me a lift because as a manager you are down, and try to find something you can hang on to.

"In the end, I will have to live with this result my whole life."

Southampton travelled to the King Power Stadium later in the season and won 2-1.
