Sir Alex Ferguson's verdict on Marcelo Bielsa as Leeds United get Jean-Kevin Augustin update

Leeds United have won promotion to the Premier League and that now means a summer of intrigue.

The Championship title was sealed in fantastic fashion as the Whites swept the board at the end of the campaign.

We still have plenty of stories commemorating a brilliant season for Leeds and boss Marcelo Bielsa and well as some pieces looking ahead to next term.

Here is the latest Leeds United news in your morning digest.

Bielsa's classy message

Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa has issued a classy message following his League Managers' Association win on Monday evening.

The Argentine spoke to Sky Sports News in a pre-recorded interview and hailed everyone concerned with the football club.

"Good evening. First of all I wish to apologise for not delivering this message in English," Bielsa said. "Secondly I would like to say thank you for this award. It's of special importance to me because the votes were cast by the coaches in the league that Leeds have won.

"The fact that my colleagues have recognised my contribution is so important to me.

"Awards are usually recognition for achievements by a particular team. In this case it's the recognition of the title Leeds have won.

"I know how much help on the path towards this achievement that I have received. I'd like to thank the club and the authorities who hired me for the chance to work in English football."

Sir Alex's tribute to Bielsa

Manchester United great Sir Alex Ferguson also appeared on the LMA programme and he touched on Bielsa's achievements at Leeds.

Bielsa also finished fourth in the LMA's overall rankings as well as picking up the Championship gong.

And Ferguson, who revealed the overall winner of Liverpool's Jurgen Klopp, also added his thoughts on Bielsa.

Ferguson told Sky Sports: "In fourth place is Marcelo Bielsa of Leeds United. As everyone knows in the game that Championship league is very, very difficult.

"Some great teams have been in there for many years.

"Nottingham Forest have won the European Cup twice. Sheffield Wednesday, teams like that. Leeds United were there for 16 years so Marcelo you did a fantastic job. Welcome to the Premier division."

"It is clear that the Coronavirus crisis cost us a lot of money as an association. Many companies are struggling with shrinking budgets, including us," he told Sportbuzzer.

When asked when the Bundesliga side will receive payment for the striker, he added: "Better today then tomorrow. The legal situation is clear.

“Of course [it’s] not a nice one. I am so sorry for him. He is a great football player when he’s fit.”
