Sir Alex Ferguson's unorthodox method to convince a Class of 92 star to sign

John O'Kane has revealed that Sir Alex Ferguson convinced him to sign for Manchester United in 1990 over a game of snooker.

The Class of 92 became world-famous for its abundance of talent after winning the FA Youth Cup in 1992 with the likes of David Beckham, Gary Neville, Nicky Butt, Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs amongst the squad.

Those within the ranks at that time then featured in United's treble-winning side in 1999 that saw them win the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup, although O'Kane wasn't at the club during that time after leaving for Everton, three years earlier.

The Nottingham-born defender only made two league appearances for United prior to his move to Goodison Park but after Howard Kendall's sacking, he dropped out of favour on Merseyside and went on to complete stints at Bolton, Blackpool before ending his career at Hyde United.

Sir Alex had the likes of Beckham, Scholes and the Neville brothers to thank for their efforts in not only the history-making season but throughout his tenure as he steered the Reds to becoming one of the most coveted teams in English football.

"I came from Nottingham but Sir Alex got me after he invited me to his home. There was this surreal experience of us having a game of snooker together before we went to a game against Arsenal," O'Kane told Goal.

It was World Cup winner Nobby Stiles who spotted the defender leading him to the legendary Scottish tactician at the start of the 90s.

The Reds were crowned Youth Cup winners for the fifth time in 1992 after beating Crystal Palace 6-3 on aggregate with O'Kane featuring in both legs of the final.
