It’s unthinkable to imagine Cristiano Ronaldo in a Premier League football shirt other than Manchester United.

But if rumours are to be believed, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner was close to joining Manchester City in the summer.

In the end, Ronaldo came “home” to the team he left in 2009 and former United manager Sir Alex Ferguson played a crucial role.

The duo formed a close bond in Ronaldo’s first spell at the club and it took three words from Sir Alex to secure his return to Old Trafford from Juventus.
