Sir Alex Ferguson's Manchester United trait that Bolton Wanderers lacked against Grimsby Town

Bolton Wanderers boss Ian Evatt felt he didn't see enough desire to win at all costs from his side against Grimsby Town.

Wanderers picked up their first clean sheet of the season against the Mariners but were unable to break the deadlock against Ian Holloway's side.

Bolton came close before half-time through Ali Crawford's free kick but that was among the most clear goalscoring opportunities on a day where the Trotters failed to register a shot on target.

And Wanderers head coach Evatt felt he did not see a desire from his side to win at all costs.

He pointed to the quality which Wanderers' local rivals Manchester United displayed time and time again under their legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson - the knack of scoring late on in games.

Evatt said: "I didn’t see that desire to win at all costs today.

"I use an analogy about Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United, you almost knew that they were going to score in the 85th, 86th, 87th minute, I didn’t see that from us today.

"Now whether that’s because we haven’t got the fans sucking that ball in the net, it obviously plays a part and for me there’s no reason why we can’t have fans in here socially distanced.

"But we have to figure it out and figure it out quickly."

The result against Grimsby leaves Wanderers 18th in League Two on four points.

They take on bottom side Oldham Athletic next weekend at the University of Bolton Stadium.
