Sir Alex Ferguson's Man Utd advice to Jose Mourinho that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has taken

Back in 2018, Jose Mourinho was in charge at Manchester United and Sir Alex Ferguson was keeping a close eye on the development of the team he loves.

The Red Devils had just won the Europa League and things were looking up for the first time since 2013.

In February of that year, Manchester United held an event remembering victims of the Munich air disaster at Old Trafford.

A number of famous faces connected with the club were in attendance, including Ferguson's.

After the ceremony, the legendary Manchester United boss went and spoke to Mourinho.

Much of what the pair discussed remains between them, but Ferguson is said to have instructed Mourinho to play the up-and-coming Scott McTominay more often that season.

Ferguson liked what he saw from his young compatriot in 2017 and was hopeful the midfielder could push on.

Mourinho certainly did his best to fit McTominay into his United team and he showed signs of progression.

But it seems things have really improved for the midfielder this season under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, with the Scot now an important player under the Norwegian.

McTominay has made 39 appearances in all competitions for United this campaign, but crucially he's been chipping in with goals too.

In February, the midfielder netted three in three as United battered Southampton 9-0, drew 3-3 with Everton and beat West Ham 1-0 in the FA Cup.

Ferguson had a knack for spotting talent and nurturing young players to help them fulfil their potential.

And it seems he was right on the money with McTominay, who is a fine example of Manchester United's academy in full swing.
