Sir Alex Ferguson pupil Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has brought 'Man Utd culture back'

Dwight Yorke believes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has a head start as Manchester United boss – having played under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Yorke and Solskjaer were United team-mates and the former reckons the new Reds boss has a huge advantage, having learned from the best in Ferguson, the most successful manager in the club's history.

“I think his experience as a player at Manchester United, winning all the big competitions and trophies, will help him a lot,” said Yorke.

“He served under, who I regard the best ever football manager, in Sir Alex, and I think that also has to have had an influence on his managerial style.

“He has, without doubt, done a phenomenal job so far, you can't argue with that.

“Ole's got the best out of the team and we're seeing results, which is what matters.

“I think he's brought some of the Manchester United culture back to the club.

“The players seem to be enjoying playing football and he has brought some fun and enjoyment back into the game they are playing.”

Yorke, part of United's 1999 treble-winning side along with Solskjaer, added: “I've always said we have a great squad.

“For whatever reason, things weren’t working out in previous seasons and Ole seems to have been able to bring the best out of the fantastic players we have.”

Yorke said there was no indication, when he played with Solskjaer at Old Trafford, that the Norwegian would one day go on to manage United.

“I wouldn’t have said when I played with him that he was the one in the dressing-room that would go on to be manager at the club,” said Yorke.

“He was always fairly quiet and reserved and you always think it’s the louder, more vocal ones who will go on to be managers.'

Asked if United, currently fifth, two points behind fourth-placed Arsenal , can clinch a Champions League spot, Yorke said: “That's difficult for anyone to predict.

“I think we're doing well and we need to continue to win games, put any set-backs and losses behind us, keep doing what we are doing and who knows?”
