Sir Alex Ferguson praises three Manchester United youngsters before Liverpool FC game

Sir Alex Ferguson admitted he's been impressed by how Mason Greenwood, Brandon Williams and Scott McTominay have taken the opportunities given to them this season.

Manchester United have been heavily reliant on homegrown talent this season, with the trio — and others like Tahith Chong, Angel Gomes, Andreas Pereira and of course Marcus Rashford — continuing United's proud tradition of blooding younsters.

Ferguson watches the majority of United games from the stands at Old Trafford and is often used by current boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as a sounding board. He brought through iconic talents like Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and David Beckham in his day.

And as the United legend attended the rugby clash between Sale Sharks and Glasgow Warriors on Saturday night, he was briefly asked about Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side and the Liverpool game.

Speaking to his friend and Sale owner Ged Mason on behalf of Morson Group , Ferguson said: "I think it's the area in which United have always done well, giving young players an opportunity.

"And you find that giving them an opportunity, they don't let you down and they've shown that, The boy Brandon Williams and Greenwood and McTominay — they've done exceptionally well."

Ferguson is likely to be in the stands at Anfield today (Sunday) when United taken on runaway Premier League leaders Liverpool. United remain the only team in the league this season to take points off Jurgen Klopp's unstoppable side, but will be huge underdogs.
