Sir Alex Ferguson in row with neighbours over plans to build three-storey mansion next to his home

Sir Alex Ferguson is facing another battle with neighbours who want to build a three-storey mansion next door to his home.

Plans for the new property were rejected in November after the football legend complained it was too big and poorly designed.

The 78-year-old former Manchester United manager lives in a £2.3million house in Wilmslow, Cheshire, with his wife Cathy.

His next-door neighbours Peter and Josephine Wilson have submitted new proposals to demolish their existing two-storey home and replace it with a larger property.

The couple are selling their house and interested parties have indicated they want permission for the plans before making
an offer.

But Ferguson has lodged another objection to the revised plans and said the proposed property is out of keeping with others on the street and would reduce his privacy.

A letter sent on his behalf to Cheshire East Council stated: “The visual mass and bulk of the proposed building would not respect that of the surrounding neighbourhood.”

It also raised concern about the height of the property, plans to remove a number of trees around the boundary and an “insufficient” level of detail in the proposal.

In a submission to the council, the Wilsons ’ planning agents said it was common for new-build replacement dwellings to be constructed in the area.

The local authority is due to make a decision on the new planning application next month.
