Sir Alex Ferguson 'held talks' with Man Utd transfer target Kalidou Koulibaly

Sir Alex Ferguson held talks with Manchester United transfer target Kalidou Koulibaly, according to sensational reports from France.

The conversation allegedly took place in the summer when the Old Trafford giants were in hot pursuit of the Napoli centre-back.

United ended up giving up on attempting to sign the 28-year-old, who wanted Champions League football this season, and landed £89million Harry Maguire from Leicester City instead.

Koulibaly is not short of suitors, with Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City and Real Madrid all linked with a transfer for the centre-back.

Paris Saint-Germain are believed to be in talks with Napoli over signing Koulibaly.

And according to Foot Mercato, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis is now open to selling the centre-back for less than his previous £85million valuation.

The report claims the Serie A giants could sell for a fee of around £65million.

Manchester United confirmed Ashley Young had left the club for Inter Milan on Friday, with the wing-back signing a six-month contract with the Italian giants.

Inter paid £1.28million for the former Watford and Aston Villa man, who will link up with ex-Red Devils stars Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez in Milan.

Young made 261 appearances for Manchester United but has seen game-time harder to come by in recent seasons.
