Sir Alex Ferguson gives verdict on current Manchester United youngsters

Sir Alex Ferguson says he is encouraged by the progress being made by Manchester United's latest batch of youngsters.

The legendary United manager enjoyed unprecedented success during his spell at the club with a strong emphasis on utilising the club's superb young talent.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been keen to continue the tradition since he took over at the club with the likes of Marcus Rashford, Scott McTominay and Mason Greenwood all playing a key role in the first-team.

Solskjaer has also provided opportunities for Brandon Williams, James Garner, Angel Gomes and Tahith Chong this season and Ferguson admits he's impressed with the work being done.

“They’re all doing well," he told talkSPORT when asked about United's current crop of youngsters.

“It’s a good set up at United. For any young kid going there, it’s a great club to go to.

“And I think England are producing great young players who are representing their country and that can only be a good thing.

“Hopefully Scotland can follow that!

“The thing about young people is, if you give them an opportunity, not only do they seize it, they never let you down.

“They have enthusiasm to do well."

When further pressed on the topic Ferguson spoken about his legendary time at Old Trafford and cited how the club's academy played a vital role in his own success.

The Scot continued: “If we go back to the young lads of ‘92, you give them an opportunity to play for Man United in front of 75,000 and they don’t want to miss that.

“And they all did very well, and they’re also very good human beings.”
