Sir Alex Ferguson explains what it felt like to watch Cristiano Ronaldo's second Manchester United debut

Sir Alex Ferguson has admitted it was 'fantastic' to watch Cristiano Ronaldo make his second Manchester United debut.

Ronaldo made a sensational return to United on deadline day and, after returning from the international break early with Portugal, he made his much-anticipated second debut for the club against Newcastle in front of a full capacity Old Trafford.

It was the dream comeback for Ronaldo, who opened the scoring for United before adding another to score a brace on his return.

Since that game, Ronaldo has scored against BSC Young Boys and West Ham, and Ferguson has hailed his return to the club.

"It's fantastic. You saw on that Saturday [Newcastle game] that it was like Caesar entering Rome after victory. I came, I saw, I conquered. It was fantastic," Ferguson told United's in-house media.

"I mean, for anyone who is a United fan, we could have had a million people in there, without doubt, as there were so many outside, hundreds outside. It's one of these things. When he was here as a kid, his learning process was very, very quick.

"A lot of people said he was a diver and there was a little spell of that but, after that, he was attacking defenders and all he needed was a nudge and he would waltz by them. He would attack with unbelievable speed.

"I think the increasing knowledge of his game - I think he was born with a desire. He sacrificed himself to be the best."
