Sinners Dominates, Wicked Vanishes: The 2026 Oscar Nominations & Snubs Are Juicy Today

The 2026 Oscar nominations are finally here, and the chaos levels are delightfully high. Sinners has gone full vampire Voltron and broken the all‑time record with 16 nominations, while Aussies Rose Byrne and Jacob Elordi are both making their nominee debuts. On the flip side, Wicked got totally blanked, Chase Infiniti missed out, and a bunch of buzzy titles have basically just been told “it’s an honour just to be campaigned”.

So, shall we debrief? Here’s all the tea, the triumphs and the truly cooked snubs from this year’s Oscars noms.

All the 2026 Oscars snubs and surprises

Wicked: For Good was expected to show up all over the place, with Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo and new Stephen Schwartz songs floated as sure‑thing contenders, but the film was completely snubbed. One of the season’s breakout stars, Chase Infiniti, didn’t manage to convert her lead actress campaign for One Battle After Another into a nomination, despite the film itself over‑performing elsewhere.

On the upside, Delroy Lindo pulled off a genuine surprise by landing a supporting actor nomination for Sinners, after barely being in the wider prediction chatter. Kate Hudson also scored a leading actress nod for Song Sung Blue, a result that wasn’t considered a lock in such a competitive field. Horror fans got a little win with The Ugly Stepsister landing in makeup and hairstyling, while Weapons only translated its buzz into a single supporting nomination for *Amy Madigan and missed out on original screenplay.

Elsewhere, Park Chan‑wook’s No Other Choice fell short of a best international feature slot despite strong reviews and box‑office momentum, and Jennifer Lawrence’s performance in Die My Love was left out of the lead actress lineup.

One of our fave white boy of the month, Paul Mescal also seemed to be left out, failing to land a best supporting nod for Hamnet, but the film itself received eight nominations.

Superman missed a visual effects nomination, Noah Baumbach’s Jay Kelly went home empty‑handed, and indie favourite Sorry, Baby also couldn’t crack the final list. At least presenters Danielle Brooks and Lewis Pullman apparently did the homework and got people’s names right, which honestly counts as progress in Academy land.
