Sinn Féin North Down have removed their Facebook page after receiving a backlash in response to an image they uploaded as their profile picture.
The photoshopped image was uploaded on Wednesday and featured a masked gunman standing in front of Kieran Maxwell's election poster and a second man in a balaclava on top of Bangor's McKee Clock.
The post was soon deleted and the party page has also since been removed from Facebook.
In response to the photo, a Sinn Féin spokesperson said that the upload was not done intentionally.
He added: "This image was posted in error. It was removed as soon as party members saw the post.
“Sinn Féin has taken steps to tighten up the administration of this page.”

Despite the parties attempts, they have been urged to do more.
Alliance Party leader Naomi Long took to Twitter to condemn the post.
She said: "An error? What kind of people have a photo like that in the first place let alone post on social media.
"I think @sinnfeinireland and @MaryLouMcDonald need to respond to this and remove the person responsible from the party."

Belfast Live asked a Sinn Féin spokesperson whether the deletion of the page was connected to the backlash however he did not respond.
