A sinkhole has opened up in the middle of Dalkey village as the seaside town's newsworthy 2020 continues.
The temporary home of Matt Damon was never far from the public consciousness throughout the last few weeks as the Hollywood star brought out the best in the South Dublin community.
But there's some unusual news to report today from Dalkey as a sinkhole has opened up in the middle of the town.
The sinkhole has appeared on Castle Street, near Dalkey Castle.
Gardai are pictured at the scene and the road is currently closed in both directions according to local reports.
Gardai confirmed to Dublin Live that they are assisting with traffic management at the scene.
The sinkhole story comes hours after another road closure in the area.
Details emerged this afternoon of a major closure on Ulverton Road in Dalkey.
"Ulverton Rd is closed between Dalkey village and Castle Park due to an incident," AA Roadwatch said.
"Diversions are in place."
The Garda Traffic Twitter account also confirmed the incident, saying "Road closed in both directions between Dalkey Village and Ulverton Road. Diversions in place."
