Sinkhole emerges in Scottish city street 'months after it was repaired'

A SINKHOLE has opened up in a street in Edinburgh just months after it was reportedly first repaired by the local authority.

The sinkhole appeared on Tuesday evening on Beach Lane, Portobello, as the road was closed off and will remain shut while an investigation is carried out.

The sinkhole was reportedly only just repaired a couple of months ago before reemerging again.

Local residents have voiced their concerns over the sinkhole's reappearance on social media, with some concerned about it emerging just yards away from the Towerbank Primary School.

Transport and Environment Convener for the City of Edinburgh, Stephen Jenkinson, said council workers are assessing the sinkhole and will carry out any “necessary repairs”.

He said: “Our Roads Operations team was alerted to this incident yesterday evening and made the area safe.

“We will now assess the site, investigate the cause and process any necessary repairs.”
