'Sinister and serious' nightspot predator attacked men after driving them home

A man who admitted to multiple counts of indecently assaulting young men who fell asleep after he picked them up from Perth nightspots has been sentenced to more than three years in prison.

Brendon Quintin Webb picked up the intoxicated men in his vehicle in the entertainment precincts of Claremont and Northbridge, offering them a lift home.

After the men fell asleep, Webb indecently assaulted them, videoing the assaults using his mobile phone.

Magistrate Richard Bayly described the methods of Webb, 41, as "sinister and serious".

Police started investigating after a man who was picked up in Claremont in January made a complaint.

He had been drinking at the Avenue nightclub and Webb offered him a lift in his SUV.

The victim passed out in the front passenger seat and was driven around for three hours.

While he was asleep, Webb undid the man's pants and assaulted him, recording a video in the process.

When they got to Doubleview the man woke up and challenged Webb, getting out of the vehicle but leaving behind his sunglasses.

After police arrested Webb at his workplace on February 28, they discovered more videos recorded after victims were picked up in Claremont and along Beaufort Street in Perth.

The offences occurred in various suburbs, with many of the victims still unknown.

Webb pleaded guilty to 17 separate incidents dating back to 2017.

He also pleaded guilty to possessing dexamphetamine pills without a prescription.

It was 'something different to do': Webb

Webb, who appeared on videolink from Hakea Prison, became emotional during the sentencing hearing in Perth Magistrate's Court.

His lawyer Sam Vandongen described his client as "extremely stressed" and unable to "articulate why he did these things".

He said that when asked why he did it, Webb had responded it was "something different to do".

Mr Vandongen said Webb had been assaulted within a few days of being taken into custody, suffering severe bruising to the face.

He described his client as a "slight and unassuming man" and told the court "he's never going to do this again".

Webb has a previous conviction for a similar type of offending.
