The world's biggest online retail event is here - and it’s not Black Friday or Cyber Monday.
Today is Singles Day, a shopping event that was created in China as a commercial celebration of singletons.
Originally Chinese students celebrated being single by buying themselves gifts. In 2009 Chinese retail giant Alibaba - a major rival to Amazon and one of the biggest retailers in the world - then adopted the event and turned it into a massive annual shopping event.
More recently Singles Day has gotten global attention, with international brands adopting the event and rolling out discounts for shoppers all over the world. And this year is no different.
With many more shoppers opting to shop online due to the pandemic and lockdown restrictions, today is a great opportunity to pick up pre-Christmas savings ahead of Black Friday and Cyber Monday at the end of the month.
