Single mum's heartbreaking words to two young sons after her cancer returns

A devastated young mum has revealed her biggest fear after she was told this week her bowel cancer has returned - just three months after receiving the all-clear.

Single mum Tanya Davies, 32, says her biggest worry is what will happen to her two boys, Jack, aged eight, and Ben, 14, if she passes away.

Last Saturday night Tanya sat her children down and asked them to promise her "they will always look after each other" if anything happened to her.

They vowed they would - however didn't fully understand the heartbreaking reason why.

The day before, doctors' dealt Tanya the bombshell that her cancer had returned and had spread around her body in just six weeks, Chronicle Live reports.

She admits she is "petrified".

Tanya said: "I'm worried about what could happen to my kids if anything does happen

"I just want to know they will be OK."

Tanya initially had a simple stomach pain - however X-rays, scans and blood tests failed to provide answers.

She said: "My belly was swollen like I was nine months pregnant.

"I was diagnosed with a stomach cyst, but a cyst wouldn't stop you going to the toilet.

"The more the days would go on, the more pain I was in."

Tanya said she was in agony and eventually she went under the knife - and a surgeon discovered a tumour behind her bowel.

More than 40,000 Brits are diagnosed with bowel cancer a year, however it is more typical in older men and much rarer in younger women.

"Unfortunately I'm one-in-a-million," she admits.

Now Newcastle's East End is rallying behind the Asda worker and a campaign has been set up to raise cash to send Tanya and her boys away on holiday.

The initial £500 target was smashed within days.

Friend, Tania Armstrong, said: "She's just a lovely person, quiet and kind who would never really expect anything from anyone.

"It is the only way we know how to help, and we just want to make it easier for her while she's suffering," added Tania, a mum herself."

Before Christmas Tanya thought her nightmare had ended - as she was told her cancer was gone after operations and 17 rounds of chemo.

However tests show it has now spread elsewhere, including her pelvis and liver.

She added: "The medical staff have told me how gutted they are.

"I'm hoping for treatment, and to start chemo but they've stopped looking for a cure.

"But I'm petrified of dying."

She was due to see doctors this week to discuss the next step, while various fundraising events are taking place over the coming weeks.
