Single Anthony Joshua discloses way to his heart as he goes on blind date with fan

For many women, Anthony Joshua is the perfect man.

He's successful, good looking, down to earth, very close to his mum, and he's not exactly short of cash.

But the boxing star has admitted he's struggled to date and find love, saying that he's "married to boxing".

When AJ does find a spare minute, his perfect date definitely involves food and he says the way to his heart is through his stomach.

To test this theory, the wannabe Cupids at Peperami decided to play matchmaker to see if they could find him the perfect date based on food alone.

Speaking ahead of the the big blind date, he said: "I don’t really date. My last date was in the boxing gym…with boxing, I am married to boxing really.

"I don’t really do dates, I am not really interested in it. I am much more in to just being in relaxed situations and developing friendships.

“Like I said I am not a big fan of the date situation but if I was on a date I would find a good local restaurant. For me no food is off limits, I would just like who I am with to enjoy themselves and eat exactly what they want to. I am definitely not a food snob.”

Despite his boxing diet, AJ says he wouldn't expect a date to change what they're eating for him.

He said: "I am not worried about what a date would eat and I have never judged someone on what they were eating.

"I am a healthy eater as it’s part of my job but it wouldn’t really worry me what my partner was eating. I like all types of food really but when I am training I have to be more careful and regimented in my approach to nutrition.

"My family also does a lot of home cooking which is great.  With a partner I wouldn’t put that pressure on as my diet is a large part of my job so I wouldn’t want to add any pressure on and keep it separate.

"Believe it or not, I love chicken. Or something like fried rice and boiled fish. You know why? Because it is as delicious as it sounds!”

As part of  Peperami Chicken Bites' experiment, three beautiful women cooked AJ a meal - and he picked a date based on his favourite.

Opening up about what he looks for a woman, he said: "In terms of qualities I think it’s important how people were raised and the values they have.

"And no I am lucky I have never been in the situation to compromise love for my career."

Asked if he would ever consider dating another celebrity, he joked: "I don’t really see myself as a celebrity but you know what, if any celebrities are out there looking I am available."

After tasting all three meals, Anthony picked Rikaya, who had cooked a chicken, chili and lemon stir fry.

She was obviously shocked when she walked in and saw who she had been cooking for, saying "you're joking" and laughing.

AJ said he loved the dish, and Rikaya revealed it was her mum's recipe.

After changing out of her apron, the singletons sat down for a romantic meal.

Rikaya asked what her date looks for in love, to which he replied: "Energy, connection is important. The aura of someone is important."

Speaking afterwards, she said: "He was quite funny. He had some funny perspectives on food and love."
