Singer recreates Will Smith's classic Fresh Prince of Bel Air song with Scottish twist

A singer songwriter is proving an online hit - with his side-splitting Scottish reworking of Will Smith’s Fresh Prince of Bel-Air theme tune.

Guitarist Marc McGregor came up with the idea to cover the 90s hit show’s opening while playing TV themes on Tiktok.

And the resulting video has been viewed more than 40,000 times as fans flock to hear the result.

Civil servant Marc, 30, said: “I started doing a series of videos on Tiktok on favourite TV theme songs and somebody mentioned Fresh Prince.

“I started learning it and then I thought how funny it’d be if the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air was set in Easterhouse.”

In the original from the hit 90s show, Smith raps about being a troublesome teen growing up in Philadelphia.

He gets sent to live with relatives in plush Los Angeles by his worried mum and the sitcom follows his life there.

But in Marc’s version inspired by his own experiences, life begins on a “scheme in Easterhoose” before he finds sanctuary in family life in Cumbernauld.

On acoustic guitar, he recounts a youth of "fighting, stealing and running from the polis."

The married dad-of-one said: “It took me about ten of 15 minutes to write, it just came to me.

"The funny thing is, a couple of friends have tagged Will Smith in but he probably naw understand half the things I say.”
