British singer Marianne Faithfull has been hospitalized in London with pneumonia due to coronavirus, it was confirmed Saturday.

The British singer-songwriter-actress was suffering from a cold and sheltering in place following the U.K. mandate to stay home, according to Rollingstone.com.

“Marianne Faithfull’s manager Francois Ravard has confirmed that Marianne is being treated for COVID-19 in hospital in London,” the singer’s reps said in a statement to Rolling Stone Saturday. “She is stable and responding to treatment. We all wish her well and a full and speedy recovery.”

Faithfull was discovered at a Rolling Stones party in 1964 and soon after released her signature hit “As Tears Go By.”

Her distinctive raspy vocals were partially the product of laryngitis and drug use in the 1970s. Most recently, Faithfull has battled a series of health issues including hepatitis C and breast cancer.

The singer has released 21 studio albums, including her most recent work, “Negative Capability,” released in 2018. In a review of the album by the then 71-year-old singer, Pitchfork.com noted: “Faithfull channels her body and mind’s ache into an album that’s her best and most honest work since [her 1979 comeback triumph] ‘Broken English.’” The latter has been referred to as her best work, and in her 1994 autobiography, Faithfull called it her “masterpiece.”
