Popular singer Suradech "Joey Bazoo" Kornnguluemchot of the Thai pop band Bazoo has been sent to Klong Prem Central Prison in Bangkok for drug rehabilitation for 45 days after he was caught taking crystal methamphetamine.

Chok Chai police on Saturday took Suradech to the Bangkok North Municipal Court to seek a court order to send him for drug rehabilitation.

The 49-year-old Thai-American singer was apprehended during a police raid on an apartment in Lat Phrao district of Bangkok on Thursday night after some crystal methamphetamine, or “ice’’, and equipment used for taking illicit drugs were found in his room.

The singer admitted to having and using the crystal meth but insisted it was the first time he had used the drugs. Police took him for a urine test in which he tested positive for drugs.

The court on Saturday approved a police request to have him undergo drug rehabilitation.
