Singer Jake Carter says he hates being dubbed a 'toy boy'

Jake Carter has told how he hates being dubbed a toy boy and is still madly in love with his Dancing With The Stars partner Karen Byrne.

The singer met the Dublin beauty on the hit RTE show two years ago.

The pair danced their way into the hearts of the nation and won the glitterball trophy.

And they are proving their relationship is not just a showmance, despite their six-year age gap.

Jake, 21, told the Irish Mirror: “We’re still going strong, she’s got her own dance studio and she’s looking forward to getting back on Dancing With
The Stars.

“Myself and Karen really get along, communication is key in a relationship but I think it’s about finding the right one.

“It’s just over a year now that we’re dating, the age difference is six years, she never calls me her toy boy.”

Jake said looking up to his older brother –country singer Nathan – over the years has given him a sense of maturity. He added: “I’ve an old head on my shoulders, with Nathan being eight years older than me I grew up thinking I was older than I was. I actually think I’m 26 – I forget I’m only 21.”

And tying the knot is not on Jake’s radar as he revealed: “I won’t get married until I’m much older.”

The rising star guest presented recently on Virgin Media One’s Ireland AM and told how if he got the gig permanently it would be hard to turn it down.

Jake said: “It was quite fresh being on the other side of the chair.

“I’m well used to being interviewed now so I wasn’t nervous as such, as I had done a bit of auto-queue before.

“But subliminally I must have been a bit nervous because I didn’t sleep a wink the night before but when I got there all the guys were so nice and treated me so well.

“I really enjoyed it. It was great to do something fresh and different.

“Music is my main focus now, I’ve a new single coming out, but if Ireland AM asked me to present full time I’d jump at the chance, but getting used to early mornings might be tough.”
