Singer Ed Sheeran buys minority stake in hometown football club Ipswich

Renowned singer Ed Sheeran has acquired a small ownership stake in Ipswich Town, the Premier League club from his hometown that recently achieved promotion. The club announced on Thursday that Sheeran's stake amounts to 1.4%, although he will not be joining the board of directors.

As a frequent spectator at Ipswich's home games, Sheeran will now have his own executive box at the Portman Road Stadium, as stated by the club. The singer's investment in the team is seen as a dream come true for any passionate football supporter.

"Really excited to announce that I have bought a small percentage of my hometown football club Ipswich Town," Sheeran, 33, posted on Instagram. "It's any football fan's dream to be an owner in the club they support and I feel so grateful for the opportunity."

"I've lived in Suffolk since I was three, and although I have travelled the world and sometimes feel like an outsider in big cities, Suffolk and Ipswich have always made me feel part of a community and protected. It's such a joy to be a fan of Ipswich Town, Sheeran added."

Ipswich will kick off their Premier League season with a home match against Liverpool on Saturday. The team secured direct promotion to the top flight after claiming the runner-up spot in the English Championship during the previous campaign.
