Brian Kennedy announced that he has received the “all-clear” and is officially cancer-free.
After being diagnosed in the summer of 2016, the singer has undergone a number of rounds of chemotherapy and surgery.
But taking to social media yesterday, the Belfast star announced his relief after he got the call that he no longer has the disease. Brian, 53, said: “Just got my scan results and I’m all-clear. I’m feeling very lucky indeed. I hadn’t been scanned since last December because of Covid so there’s always a little worry buzzing around but I’m officially all-clear again.
“I’ll get another one in six months or so. I was supposed to have a follow-up scan. That was supposed to be in June, and that got kicked back to July 23 – which is so bizarre.
“That day last year was the day we lost Danika McGuigan, Barry and Sandra’s gorgeous daughter. So there I sat, where you get a scan in St James’s Hospital, just so aware.”
Speaking to Kathryn Thomas, who was filling in for Ray D’Arcy on RTE Radio One yesterday, the Eurovision star added: “What’s really to be celebrated here is I followed the procedure, I had the surgery, I struggled through all of that recovery.
“It was all worth it in the end because here I stand talking to you on a beautiful summer’s day, I’m cancer-free and feeling incredibly lucky.”
