Singer behind the John Lewis Christmas advert has links to Adele and Amy Winehouse

The new John Lewis advert has more than one connection to Adele and Amy Winehouse.

Lola Young, 20, is the voice behind the department store's new festive soundtrack, with the advert centred around an alien experiencing Christmas for the first time.

Following in the footsteps of the likes of Lily Allen and Tom Odell, the young singer belts out a special song to accompany the advert - a cover of Together In Electric Dreams, originally released by Philip Oakey and Giorgio Moroder in 1984.

Despite not being as famous as her predecessors, Lola is expected to nab her first ever number one single in the UK Chart with her festive hit.

The young singer is well prepared for the huge success predicted to come her way, as she is managed by none other than Nick Shymanksy, who once worked with the legendary Amy Winehouse.

Lola is a big fan of the later star herself, according the OK! magazine.

The publication has reported that the singer previously told Helicon magazine: "I didn’t grow up listening to Amy Winehouse but obviously she’s a legend and my manager used to manage her, so for me it’s quite close to home.

"Her lyrics and her song writing skills, are like, blow me away every time."

Not content with have one connection to one of Britain's greatest singers of all time, the John Lewis star has another link to another talented Brit.

Nick Huggett, another of Lola's managers, previously discovered and signed award-winning artist Adele in 2006.

With links to two of the most popular female solo artists of all time, Lola has confused it can like "pressure" as she begins her career.

"It’s quite a lot of pressure, but at the same time it’s nice to be managed by someone that’s experienced and I have a very close relationship with my managers," she admitted.

She continued: "It's great to work with people who understand you and also understand the industry."

"Because there’s a lot of artists out there with managers who don’t know anything about the industry and that’s the worst boat to be in."

Not only that, like Amy and Adele and many other successful UK artists, Lola honed her craft as a youngest at the country's leading Performing and Creative Arts school, The BRIT school.

"I really had to learn, practice, get lessons and teach myself," the up and coming singer-songwriter admitted when reflecting on her childhood years.

She added: "Hard work was involved when it came to me learning how to sing.

"People might say, 'It sounds like you were born with that voice.' It was not the case at all."

Lola's vocal talents lend themselves perfectly to this year's John Lewis Christmas advert.

This year's offering from the retail giants is about the power of a sweet friendship between teenager Nathan and alien Skye which will tug at viewers' heartstrings.

The advert "celebrates the magic of Christmas moments experienced for the first time" with the prospect of families and friends being together this year after they were unable to celebrate with each other 12 months ago.
