Singer and guitarist, 24, dies after being electrocuted by his own instrument

A singer-guitarist was killed when he was electrocuted by his own instrument during a soundcheck before a concert.

Luyan Lopes de Aguiar, 24, was due to perform in Sao Borja, Brazil, last weekend with his Pankda de Vaneira bandmates.

While tuning the guitar he strummed it twice, but on the third screamed in pain.

As one of his bandmates switched off the mains another tried to take the instrument from his hands and received a milder shock.

Emergency services tried to revive popular Luyan but he was eventually pronounced dead at the scene.

The venue is now being investigated by police.

The band, which has received tens of thousands of views on its YouTube page, put on Instagram : “No words could express such pain within our hearts.

“If there is pain in the soul, maybe not even it can describe what we are feeling. We stayed together until the last moment, we tried everything in our power, if it were up to us, we would still be trying to bring you back.

“But your story was already written, the old father up there called you to sing next to him. Your journey here was over, the little bird flew... hard to understand, to accept, but he knows everything and wanted it that way.

“Proud to have shared so many incredible moments by your side. So many, laughter, so many problems solved, but this one we couldn't, forgive us.

“Thank you Luyan”

They added they had not decided yet if they would return without their bandmate.

One fan said: “This is very sad, may God comfort all family and friends in this difficult time of great pain.”

Fellow singer Marcelo Gomes de Gomes Junior, added: "Luyan was a person who delighted everyone, humble, respectful, a dreamer. He is sorely missed.

“No one who knew Luyan disliked him."

He was buried in Itaqui on Sunday, February 13.
