Only fully vaccinated people and those who had recently recovered from the coronavirus will be allowed to enter workplaces in Singapore from January, authorities said on Saturday.
Those who have not had shots against Covid-19 must test negative daily before they are granted access, according to a government statement.
“Unvaccinated employees will not be allowed to return to the workplace unless they have tested negative for Covid-19 before returning to the workplace, and they will need to pay for the costs of these tests,” it said.
The testing requirements will also apply to people who are medically ineligible to take the vaccines and pregnant women, it said.
Those who have recovered from Covid within the past 270 days are part of the group that will be allowed entry into workplaces.
Singapore, where 83% of the adult population has been fully vaccinated, has been grappling with a surge in Covid cases over the past four weeks, with numbers above 3,000 on most days, though the vast majority show no or very mild symptoms. On Saturday it reported 3,637 new infections, up from 3,439 the day before, and 14 deaths.
