It was a day of mixed fortunes for Indian shuttlers at the Singapore on Tuesday. Kidambi Srikanth, Priyanshu Rajawat and MR Arjun-Dhruv Kapila advanced while PV Sindhu, HS Prannoy, Lakshya Sen and Saina Nehwal crashed out.
Defending champion Sindhu lost to world No. 1 Akane Yamaguchi of Japan 21-18, 19-21, 17-21. The Indian challenge in women's singles ended as Saina lost to Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand and Aakarshi Kashyap went down to Supanida Katethong 17-21, 9-21.
Prannoy suffered a first round jolt, losing to third seed Kodai Naraoka of Japan 15-21, 19-21. Lakshya too suffered a 21-18, 17-21, 13-21 loss to fifth seed Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei.
Fast-rising youngster Priyanshu caused a minor upset when he knocked out world No. 15 Kanta Tsuneyama of Japan 21-12, 21-15. The world No. 37 will face world No. 4 Naraoka next.
Srikanth had it easy against Kantaphon Wangcharoen of Thailand, winning 21-15, 21-19. The men's duo of Arjun and Dhruv took just 42 minutes to beat Lucas Corvee and Ronan Labar of France 21-16, 21-15.
