The 2025 Formula One season continues with the Singapore Grand Prix this weekend as the business end of a thrilling campaign fast approaches, and George Russell is back on pole position.
We are a fortnight removed from a chaotic few days in Azerbaijan, where Max Verstappen led from start to finish after an incident-packed qualifying session and championship leader Oscar Piastri dramatically crashed out early.
Thankfully for the Australian, his McLaren team-mate and title rival Lando Norris was unable to take much advantage of his error, finishing only seventh to move within 25 points of the lead with seven races remaining this term.
Reigning four-time world champion Verstappen, meanwhile, is now 69 off the pace in third after winning back-to-back races at Monza and on the streets of Baku, leading to suggestions that he could yet spoil McLaren’s hopes.
Verstappen again got the better of his title rivals during qualifying at the Marina Bay Street Circuit, but Russell nabbed his second pole of the season. Russell was 0.182 of a second faster than Verstappen in Saturday's qualifying session. Piastri qualified third, with his McLaren teammate Norris fifth.
