Singapore Airlines to roll out Starlink internet connection on select aircraft from 2027

Singapore Airlines, which is frequently named among the world’s best, has just announced it will be rolling out Starlink-powered WiFi from next year.

The Singaporean flag carrier will offer the service for free to all customers, including economy class, provided you are a KrisFlyer member. The loyalty programme is free to join.

The roll out will begin in the first quarter of 2027, and will be added to the airline’s Airbus A350-900 long‑haul, A350-900 ultra‑long‑range and A380 aircraft.

It is expected that the fleet will be fully connected by the end of 2029.

Singapore Airlines already offers complimentary WiFi to all passengers, but Starlink will improve connectivity and provide speeds fast enough for video streaming, gaming and more.

“Fast, seamless connectivity is, today, an essential part of the travel experience,” Yeoh Phee Teik, senior vice president of customer experience at Singapore Airlines, said.

“Singapore Airlines already offers the world’s most comprehensive complimentary in-flight WiFi across our entire fleet.

“Starlink will take this to the next level by delivering next-generation high-speed connectivity, enabling customers to stay entertained, connected, and productive throughout their journey, with a smoother and seamless experience from take-off to landing.”

A subsidiary of Elon Musk’s Space X, Starlink has more than 10,000 satellites in low Earth orbit which are used to connect passengers to the internet while on board.

Which airlines offer Starlink?

Airlines began announcing partnerships with Starlink in 2024, with Hawaiian Airlines and Qatar Airways among the first.

European carriers that have begun rolling out Starlink include airBaltic, Aer Lingus, Air France, British Airways, Iberia, LEVEL, SAS, Virgin Atlantic and Vueling.

Lufthansa Group, which includes the German flag carrier as well as Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Discover Airlines, Eurowings, ITA Airways, and Swiss International Air Lines, will begin its roll out later this year.

Controversially, British Airways has said it will allow phone calls using Starlink on board
