Singapore Airlines delays premium seat upgrade rollout to 2027

Singapore Airlines has delayed the rollout of upgraded First and Business Class seats on its Airbus A350-900 fleet to early 2027, citing supply chain and certification challenges, according to a Bloomberg report. The airline said the launch has been postponed from the second quarter of 2026 to the first quarter of 2027 due to “chronic global supply chain constraints and certification issues affecting one of the seat types,” the company said in an emailed statement, as quoted by Bloomberg.

The upgrade is part of a broader S$1.1 billion investment plan to overhaul cabin interiors across its fleet. The new configuration will cover multiple cabin classes, from First Class to Economy, and will be introduced on 41 Airbus A350 aircraft, including ultra-long-haul routes such as Singapore–New York.

The airline said the first commercial flights with the new interiors will remain subject to regulatory approvals, though it plans to unveil the upgraded product later this year.

Competition drives premium upgrades

Airlines globally have been investing in premium cabin upgrades to attract high-value passengers, particularly in the luxury segment. Singapore Airlines is among carriers that regularly rank among the world’s top airlines, competing with Asian, Gulf, European and US rivals that are also expanding premium offerings.

The new seats will also be installed on future Boeing 777-9 aircraft, aligning with the airline’s long-term fleet upgrade strategy.

The rollout of the new cabins is expected to coincide with the introduction of Starlink in-flight Wi-Fi, as the airline joins others adopting satellite-based connectivity services.
