Singalongs and sausages as Oktoberfest brings even more family fun to Alton Towers

As far as fun is concerned, there's no shortage of it at Alton Towers.

If anything there simply isn't enough time in the day to enjoy all that it has to offer, which is why so many people end up turning their trip into an overnight stay.

Whether you're taking little ones to sample the delights of CBeebies Land, or taking your thrill-seeking teens on the roller coasters, there is something to keep kids of all ages entertained.

And now the front lawns of the 500-acre theme park have once again been transformed into a Bavarian-themed venue, complete with seasonal food, beer and live entertainment for the annual Oktoberfest event .

As the resort's events and entertainments director Chris Carter explained, Oktoberfest 'has grown from a small folk festival in Munich to a hugely popular event that’s now celebrated around the world' and at Alton Towers that means 'even more non-stop fun and thrills for families and thrill-seekers'.

Of course there's the usual rides and entertainment for guests to enjoy and there was no stopping the teenagers I took along from getting on as many roller coasters as they had time for - some of them sampling the likes of The Smiler and Wicker Man for the very first time.

With rides open until 7pm on Saturdays throughout the event it gives visitors even more chance of getting on the most popular rides, like Nemesis, which it's just been announced will be closing for a revamp in November until 2024.

But it's the family-friendly atmosphere this festival brings that makes this event so special. With live performances throughout the day, on the front lawn stage and in Mutiny Bay's Courtyard, both offer a place to relax and enjoy the music.

There are all the usual rides to enjoy like the Runaway Mine Train (Manchester Family / MEN)

It was the Lebhaft Tanzen Show, with its 'pumped-up Oktoberfest soundtrack', that kept us entertained as we tucked into our chicken and fries and there were loads of tasty treats on offer, from traditional bratwurst, hog roast and schnitzel, to candy floss and marshmallows, which you can toast yourself.

My rabble were thankfully too young to sample any of the booze on offer, but there were plenty of adults enjoying a cold pint of Spaten or Franziskaner beer in the September sunshine.

Little ones were up dancing at the front and in between the rows of picnic tables and interacting with the friendly characters that are roaming the area with some great dance moves of their own.

Oktoberfest is on until October 2 (Manchester Family / MEN)

From The Darwin Show with Darwin the Dodo, to the two live bands - Lunafall Party Band and The Oomparty Band - the list goes on. Thankfully the event does too. Well until October 2 at least. So don't hang around if you fancy taking a trip there yourself.

Day passes start at £38 per person , with tickets giving you access to the theme park and Oktoberfest. To find out more and to book tickets, visit the Alton Towers website here.
