Sinead O’Connor has revealed she’s been celibate since she had an emergency hysterectomy in 2015.
The 54-year-old, whose memoir Rememberings is published on Tuesday, said she hasn’t let a male near her since she had the surgery.
Mum-of-four Sinead told People magazine in the US: “The last man that touched my body took out my reproductive system.
“I’ve not let a man touch my body in any way since.”
The Nothing Compares 2U singer said she hit a low in 2015 after a hysterectomy to treat endometriosis.
The operation, and the surgical menopause that followed, left her feeling suicidal and she posted a number of videos on social media asking for help.
Sinead revealed: “When I had the surgery, I was terribly triggered... I was mental.
“But I don’t regret those ‘embarrassing’ videos. I’m quite proud, in a weird way, that I was that open.
“The nature of a singer is to be emotionally honest.
“I’ve always been pretty open. And I have no regrets.” She has since been diagnosed with bi-polar and has fortnightly check-ins with her medical team.
Sinead said: “I manage very well because I’ve been taught brilliant skills. There was a lot of therapy.
“It’s about focusing on the things that bring you peace as opposed to what makes you feel unstable.”
The musician dedicated her long-awaited book to the staff and patients at St Patrick’s University Hospital in Dublin where she had treatment.
She said: “Six years on and off I’ve spent more time there than out of there.”
