Sinead O’Connor says she ‘never wants to spend time with white people again’ after converting to Islam

The artist formerly known as Sinead O'Connor has been urged to "get help" after saying "I never want to spend time with white people again".

The musician, who recently converted to Islam and changed her name to Shuhada' Davitt, prefaced the statement by claiming she was "terribly sorry" to make it.

She went on to describe white people as "disgusting" in a series of tweets.

On her account, which has some 38,000 followers, she wrote: "I'm terribly sorry.

"What I'm about to say is something so racist I never thought my soul could ever feel it.

"But truly I never wanna spend time with white people again (if that's what non-muslims are called).

"Not for one moment, for any reason. They are disgusting."

The post quickly prompted a huge response, with many denouncing her views and others issuing her advice.

It comes after the 51-year-old revealed that she had changed her name and become a Muslim in October.

On Twitter, she said: "This is to announce that I am proud to have become a Muslim. This is the natural conclusion of any intelligent theologian's journey.

"All scripture study leads to Islam. Which makes all other scriptures redundant. I will be given (another) new name. It will be Shuhada'."
