Sinead O'Connor's son has 'lovely' send-off as she leaves brilliant gift in coffin 'in case there's none in heaven'

Sinead O'Connor's son Shane had a "lovely Hindu ceremony" on Saturday, according to his mother.

Shane tragically died at just 17-years-old last week with a ceremony taking place earlier today

Legendary singer Sinead also said she left a few packs of fags in her son's coffin "in case there's none in heaven".

Speaking after the send-off, Sinead tweeted: "We just said goodbye to our beautiful angel, Shaney. Very lovely Hindu ceremony. Shane will have loved it. He was always chanting 'Om. Shanti'. I put a few packs of fags in the coffin for him in case there’s none in heaven. He’ll have loved that too. Om. Shanti."

Sinead O'Connor had been admitted into hospital days after her son’s tragic death after sparking concern for her own safety.

The heartbroken singer confirmed the news on Twitter on Thursday night following a spate of worrying messages on the social media platform earlier in the evening.

Fans and famous friends have continued to rally behind Sinead and her family,

Offering her support after the star confirmed she was on her way to hospital, Maïa Dunphy said: “Sinead; I wish you could see yourself through our eyes, even for a minute.”

Another fan penned: “You are adored globally, the most beautiful woman in Ireland, one of our greatest talents, ever. A pioneer, a breath of fresh air, a trail blazer.

“I am so sorry about the loss of your beautiful boy, I can’t imagine the pain. Please please stay with us we love you to bits x”

Pogues singer Shane MacGowan also rushed to offer his support to the star in the past week, saying “Sinead you have always been there for me and for so many people, you have been a comfort and a soul who is not afraid to feel the pain of the suffering. I pray that you can be comforted and find strength, healing and peace in your own sorrow and loss.”
