Sinead O’Connor on her retirement from gigging 'it’s not a sad thing' as she hopes to be a talent show judge

Sinead O’Connor admitted yesterday she would like to be a judge on a talent show.

The Nothing Compares 2 U singer revealed last Friday that all her future concerts and tours will now be pulled.

But she wants to mentor future stars on shows such as the Voice of Ireland, which was axed in 2016.

She said: “I have always wanted to be one of the artists involved in presenting and mentoring on the The Voice of Ireland.

“But never was free to do it. I am now. So if they ever want me they can contact my managers.”

The 54-year old told RTE’s Brendan O’Connor yesterday that she still intends to keep busy but is just not touring.

She added: “I would probably write songs for other artists and if the odd job came along… for example I’m singing the song for the Michael Flatley movie.

“I do believe I’m past my peak as a singer and I’d be stupid not to acknowledge that.”

The troubled performer said that the decision to quit touring was not one taken on a whim.

She said: “The long and the short of it is I’m a Bel Canto singer, and Bel Canto singers are inclined to retire around this age.”
