Sinead O'Connor apologises for 'lashing out' after the tragic death of her son Shane

Sinead O’Connor has apologised after "lashing out" at the issue of mental health services in Ireland in the wake of her son’s recent death.

The heartbroken mother-of-four had fired criticism at Tusla and the HSE and said that she would never forgive the Irish state for what had happened to young Shane.

The 17-year-old tragically took his own life last weekend after being reported missing from the hospital on Thursday.

O’Connor described Ireland as “a third world country” for the lack of mental health services and hospital beds but later apologised for what she had said.

In a post on Twitter, she wrote: “Ok, I’m gonna do the right thing here and apologise for my lashing out,” she said.

“Tusla are working with very limited resources. They loved Shane.

“They are broken hearted. They are human. I am sorry I have upset them. We are a third world country. It’s not their fault.”

She continued: “The issue is.. we are a third world country. We have 12 beds in special care for suicidal teenagers.

“And no resources to save those who can’t manage life. 128 icu beds in the whole country.

“Tusla did their best. We all did: and I am deeply sorry to have blamed anyone."

Late last night, she then said her son Shane will be laid to rest later this week with only his parents in attendance.

O’Connor explained that he was Hindu and that he had made requests for what he wanted his service to be in suicide notes he left behind.

She explained: “Shane was Hindu. So the funeral will be just his mother and father.

“This was also the wish Shane expressed in his suicide notes. If you’re going to send anything to the mortuary at Loughlinstown hospital pls send flowers or Hindu objects. Shane O’Connor.

“Alternatively flowers or Hindu objects can be sent to Newlands Cross crematorium. I believe the ceremony is to be on Thursday.”
