Sinead O'Connor admitted to hospital after death of son Shane, 17

Singer Sinead O'Connor has been admitted to hospital after the death of her son Shane, aged 17.

Sinead took to social media on Thursday to say that she had been taken to hospital with mental health difficulties.

She later apologised for earlier messages in which she had spoken of her feelings of guilt and depression, and tweeted: "I am with cops now on way to hospital. I’m sorry I upset everyone.

"I am lost without my kid and I hate myself. Hospital will help a while."

Shane was found dead on January 7 after going missing, reports The Mirror.

His mum tweeted on Saturday: "My beautiful son, Nevi’im Nesta Ali Shane O’Connor, the very light of my life, decided to end his earthly struggle today and is now with God.

"May he rest in peace and may no one follow his example. My baby. I love you so much. Please be at peace."

Earlier this week, Sinead shared details of her son's funeral, explaining she will follow his requests.

She said Shane will, as he requested, have a Hindu ceremony with only her and his father, Donal Lunny, in attendance.

She explained: "Fyi. Shane was Hindu. So the funeral will be just his mother and father. This was also the wish Shane expressed in his suicide notes."
