Sinead Kissane announces departure from Virgin Media after 16 years

Sinead Kissane has announced her departure from Virgin Media this evening after 16 years as she prepares to take on a new sports role in Ireland.

The rugby correspondent who over the past few years has written a column for the Irish Independent will now take up a permanent role with the Irish news source.

In a post on Twitter, she wrote: “Today was my last day working with Virgin Media TV after 16 years.

“I’m indebted to all those I’ve had the privilege of working alongside for their kindness, friendship, support & hard work through the years.

Revealing her next move, she explained: “After writing a weekly column for the past number of years, I will be taking up a new role working with the Irish Independent, Sunday Independent & independent.ie.

“Looking forward to joining the sports team there.”

Fellow sports presenters have been congratulating Kissane on her next career move, with Virgin Media’s Conán Doherty writing: “Unbelievable stint Sinéad. Congratulations.”

RTE’s Tony O’Donoghue added: “Best wishes Sinéad,” while Micheal McCarthy wrote: “Hard to believe we won't be seeing you there anymore, especially with Six Nations around the corner.

“Best of luck with your next move Sinead!”
