Simpsons intro elaborately recreated with social distancing messages by bored family

The famous opening sequence of The Simpsons has been recreated for the coronavirus age by a family in Ontario.

Joel Sutherland, an author, posted a video on Twitter on Wednesday (8 April) of his family acting out the entire intro while dressed up as Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie.

In a caption alongside the clip, Sutherland explained they had decided to recreate the sequence as they were “bored” on Day 23 of social isolation.

The video sees the young boy who plays Bart writing “I will social distance” on a blackboard instead of “I will not skateboard in the halls”.

At the time of writing, it has been watched over 400,000 times.

Al Jean, The Simpsons showrunner, retweeted the video and the show’s official Twitter account shared it with the words: “Quarantine creativity level [100 points].”

The Simpsons recently made headlines after fans said it had “predicted” the coronavirus outbreak. Read the full list of pop culture moments that appear to have foreseen the pandemic, here.
