There has been an almost 15% jump in covid cases in the space of a week in Knowsley.
While there are currently no Omicron cases detected in Knowsley, Cabinet member for health, Cllr Christine Bannon said it is “simply a matter of time” before the variant comes to the borough.
Cllr Bannon said: “Our case levels in Knowsley currently stand at 477 cases per 100,000 population.

“We have not yet confirmed any Omicron variant cases in Knowsley, although some cases are currently being analysed and we believe that it is simply a matter of time before Omicron cases are confirmed in Knowsley given how transmissible this variant has been found to be elsewhere.
“The level of cases in Knowsley has increased by 14.7% in the last seven days, so we are urging residents to continue to follow the latest Government guidance – work from home if they can, wear a face covering in most indoor settings, continue with regular (twice weekly) testing, maintain good ventilation, continue with regular hand washing, and get vaccinated. ”
Urging residents to take up vaccinations and boosters, drop in vaccination clinics are open in various locations across the borough over the next week.
Cllr Bannon said: “The vaccination offers the best protection against the virus and you can book an appointment by ringing 119 or by visiting www.nhs.uk/coronavirus-vaccine. ”
Drop in clinics are available at the following locations:
- December 15 – 19 Alamein Barracks, Huyton
- December 15-17 Hollies Hall, Halewood
- December 19 New Hutte Community Centre, Halewood
Cllr Bannon added: “We are also working with our health partners around a vaccination site in Kirkby too.
“We all need to continue to play our part to protect our loved ones and the NHS.”
