Simple ways to save wasting fuel on your car journeys

CASH-STRAPPED motorists are being reminded of how to save money on the road as forecourt fuel prices rocket.

The top tips from leading motoring association MotorEasy start with remembering to drive steadily and smoothly for the best economical advantages.

By avoiding harsh movements, speeding, revving your engine and heavy braking, you can help to prevent wear and tear and maximise your fuel usage.

Have a good clear-out of items you might be carrying unnecessarily in your boot, as it will use additional fuel and can add to mechanical strains.

Similarly, if you only use a bike rack or roof box occasionally, remove them when not in use as they will also lower efficiency.

And stick to regular servicing as it can extend the life of your car and keep it in top running condition.

MotorEasy chief Duncan McClure Fisher said: “Millions of Brits rely on their vehicles to get to and from work, take their kids to school and visit their families and friends.

“So the rise in fuel costs is set to hit many hard over the winter months. But there are some simple ways to get the most out of a full tank – and boost your bank balance in the process.”
