Simple way to unlock trolleys at Asda, Sainsbury's, Tesco, Aldi and Morrisons if you forget your £1

Going to the supermarket can be a chore and there’s been a lot more to remember since social distancing measures were put in place due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Before you even get round to ticking everything off your shopping list, you’ve got to remember your mask, sanitise your hands on entry, wipe down your trolley and keep your distance.

It’s all for our own good - and that of others - of course, so we don’t mind really, but if there’s one thing that tips us over the edge, it’s forgetting a pound coin for the trolleys.

Thankfully, before you start flexing your muscles and seeing just how much you really can fit in a basket, there’s a handy way to get a trolley even without a pound coin.

An Asda customer previously shared a tip on Twitter that changes everything. Alongside the image he said: "Life hack if you ain't got a quid for a trolley."

The picture showed him using the circular part of a key to go in the slot where the coin would be placed. People were quick to praise the genius idea, with one saying “This is incredible”.

Just don’t forget to take the key out when you put the trolley back or you could have an even bigger problem when you get home and realise you’re locked out.

And there’s another tip that might be worth trying. Apparently two 20p coins work in the same way as a £1 when it comes to unlocking trolleys, so check your change before reaching for the basket.
