'Simple' - manager lifts the lid on failed transfer bid for Nottingham Forest midfielder

Bolton Wanderers boss Keith Hill has revealed why he missed out on signing Nottingham Forest midfielder Liam Bridcutt in the January window.

Bridcutt joined Bolton in the summer on loan and made 12 appearances for the League One strugglers.

Hill wanted to keep the Reds midfielder until the end of the season, but Bridcutt opted for a move to fellow League One side Lincoln City.

Geographically it means Bridcutt can stay closer to home in the East Midlands and his parent club.

Bridcutt joined Forest from Leeds United in 2017, but has struggled to nail down a regular starting spot with the club. He has 31 appearances and one goal for the Reds.

Hill said Bridcutt would always be welcome back at Bolton.

“Liam wanted to go Lincoln, it was as simple as that,” Hill told The Bolton News.

“We had a conversation and he explained his reasons why, and they will remain private, but he wanted to go there.

“He had a great time here and he’ll always be welcomed back.”
