Simple food trick labelled 'life-changing' as it makes sure no food goes to waste

The lockdown in the UK has meant people are buying more during their essential shop so they don't have to venture out twice.

Chefs are busy sharing easy recipes to help families use up their store cupboard items, while money-saving experts have been revealing how to make food go further with batch-cooking methods and freezing tips.

However, if you've sadly still found yourself with lots of products that are out of date and wishing you'd checked the packet sooner, there's a quick trick you can take note of to help.

A simple hack for ensuring food in the fridge gets used at the right time has been shared by a man named Matt Tee on Twitter, reports The Mirror.

He writes on his food packaging so it's easily visible when you open the fridge and has called the method a "little lockdown innovation."

Sharing a picture, he wrote: "Little lockdown innovation - use by dates written on the end of the packs of meat and fish, so I can see at a glance what needs eating today/tomorrow."

The post has racked up some appreciation on Twitter, with many praising the simple hack.

"This is simple, yet life changing," wrote one person.

It comes after cleaning sensation Mrs Hinch shared a hack for keeping herbs fresh.

The Instagram star chops up chives and preserves them by making ice cubes out of them.
